Montello police: new squad nearly finished; monthly report approved

Captain Kowalski told the City of Montello Public Safety Committee on Jan. 15 that the department’s new squad vehicle is currently in Portage and expected to be completed by Friday or the following Monday. He said the local school has offered the city use of its mascot for the squad vehicle design and that the existing squad will be sold at auction.
The committee approved the police monthly reports for December after Kowalski reported 29 cases for the month. A motion to approve the monthly reports was made by Venise Mugler and seconded by Chuck Bornhoeft; the minutes record the motion as carried. Kowalski also reported municipal court receipts of $1,574.40 for December.
No follow-up motion about the squad purchase, sale or design was recorded. The committee placed a separate pedestrian-safety crosswalk discussion on hold and agreed to consider a streetlight request from a motel owner at next month’s meeting.
The committee adjourned at 6:35 PM; its next meeting is Feb. 19, 2025.
