Indian Head reports $320,000 Waterway Improvement award and infrastructure updates

Town staff presented a range of infrastructure updates at the July 6, 2026 meeting. The Riverwatch Drive parking project is expected to add 24 spaces to the Boardwalk parking area; the Town has received one bid and is awaiting a second from a local contractor. East Poplar stormwater design and construction will resume; trees have been removed and Verizon relocated poles ahead of trenching materials delivery.

Staff reported wastewater permit applications have been received and that the Town is investigating sources of inflow and infiltration (I&I) related to permit requirements. Water allocation activity is under way: Schultes is on site and drilling a new well. The Town has begun developing MS4 educational materials, reinspection of basins in need of maintenance, and is awaiting word from MDE on the 2025 Annual Report. Splash pad bid specifications are being finalized and will be advertised this month.

A newly installed EV charging station at Town Hall is operational. The Town’s request for Fiscal Year 2027 Waterway Improvement Funds — $320,000 — was approved by the Maryland General Assembly and will be used for improvements to Slavin’s dock boating facility at Mattingly Park. The Town also reported it will receive earmarks for lift-station repairs and the development of a well house and booster station; meetings with the EPA are ongoing and construction is anticipated to begin soon. Paving repairs are scheduled over the next few months, and a court date related to properties outside the base gate is set for August 5.
