Town Manager Ryan Hicks told the Town of Indian Head council that the town has been awarded more than $1 million in FY2026 congressionally directed spending to support drilling a new water well, and that a separate $800,000 earmark will fund repairs to two lift stations on Dogwood Street and in the Mattawoman Woods community.
Hicks said the town is awaiting a confirmed drilling schedule from contractor AC Schultes and is developing an unaccounted-for water loss program to complement the well project. He added that work on the lift stations will follow planning and procurement steps once project scopes are finalized.
The manager framed both earmarks as part of a package of capital and maintenance needs: "We’re moving forward to secure contractors and funding to address our water-supply and wastewater infrastructure," Hicks said to the council. (Paraphrased from the Town Manager's report.)
Both items will require design, bidding and coordination with contractors and potential regulatory approvals; Hicks did not provide firm start dates. The council did not take formal votes on either project at the Feb. 2 meeting.
Next steps: staff expects to receive AC Schultes' schedule for the new well, to develop the water-loss program, and to prepare procurement documents for the lift station repairs.
