Mahwah approves sanitary‑sewer connection for 84 Ramapo Ave (Suffern) under intermunicipal agreement

The Township Council authorized an agreement Feb. 5 to permit one property in Suffern, New York, to connect to Mahwah’s sanitary sewer system.
The Council approved Resolution #106‑26 to authorize a Sanitary Sewer Connection Agreement that will allow the owner of 84 Ramapo Avenue (Block 1‑11, Lot 4‑59 in Suffern) to tie a single‑family dwelling into the Mahwah sewer system, which ultimately conveys to the Northwest Bergen County Utilities Authority treatment facility.
Under the agreement, the property owner must install the necessary connection work to standards approved by the Township Engineer, provide proof of liability insurance, deliver an escrow deposit of $2,500 to cover engineering review and inspections, obtain required permits and restore any Township property disturbed during construction. The owner will also pay annual service charges based on either twice the Township minimum flow charge (if not on Mahwah water) or measured water usage if the property connects to the Mahwah municipal water system.
Suffern and Mahwah officials agreed that Suffern will not issue plumbing or sewer permits for the property until any required payments or authority fees are made, and the owner is responsible for securing any Northwest Bergen County Utilities Authority approvals. The Council directed the Township Clerk to forward the signed agreement to the Business Administrator, DPW and the Water Department billing office.
