Marlborough board continues e-bike, e-scooter safety discussion to July 21

Town Manager David Porter told the Board of Selectmen on July 7 that several Connecticut communities already have e-bike and e-scooter rules and suggested distributing guidance to RHAM middle and high schools in the fall.
Porter said he has spoken with Michael Rhodes about policing at Blish Park and recommended public outreach through the Rivereast. Selectman Joe Asklar submitted a package to the Rivereast detailing the relevant statute regulations, and Selectman Anthony Bratz suggested collaborating with neighboring towns. Chair Susan McFarland said the board should work toward an ordinance.
After discussion the board voted to continue consideration of e-bike and e-scooter safety and possible ordinance drafting at the July 21 meeting.
What was decided: the board will continue the discussion on July 21 and explore school distribution of rules, coordination with area towns, and possible ordinance language. Porter advised residents that, in the interim, they may contact the on‑duty police officer with e-bike concerns.
