Marlborough approves repaving of Jones Hollow Road and $355,000 culvert lining

The Town of Marlborough Board of Selectmen voted July 7 to award major public-works contracts for two road projects.
Peter Hughes, the town’s director of planning and development, recommended using the state low bid for Galasso Materials at $121,430.23 to repave Jones Hollow Road from North Main Street to Middlesex Hospital, curb to curb, and recommended Rocco Ladorala Industries for thermoplastic crosswalks at $12,000. Chair Susan McFarland moved to award the contracts; Selectman Louise Concodello seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.
Hughes also reviewed bids to rehabilitate the Johnson Road culvert and recommended awarding that work to Precision Trenchless LLC for $355,000. Selectman McFarland moved to award the culvert contract, Selectman Joe Asklar seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
The board postponed action on a separate Lake Road sidewalk extension so staff could complete contractor reference checks; Hughes said the project would use a TRIP grant with a $80,000 town match allocated in 2024 and asked the board to revisit the award at the July 21 meeting.
What the board approved: the repaving contract to Galasso Materials ($121,430.23) and thermoplastic crosswalks to Rocco Ladorala Industries ($12,000); the Johnson Road culvert lining to Precision Trenchless LLC ($355,000). Votes on the motions were recorded as carried unanimously by the five selectmen present.
Next steps: the town will schedule the repaving and culvert work (Hughes said work on the culvert lining is expected in late August through early October), and staff will complete reference checks and return the Lake Road sidewalk award to the board on July 21.
