Council issues routine updates: RDA progress, winter parking, election packet dates and tax collection details

During routine business the Algoma Common Council received several administrative updates and reminders.

Staff member (first seen SEG 045) said RDA block construction is progressing and that framing and interior rough‑ins were on track; staff expects framers and additional crews on site in coming weeks. The council was reminded that winter parking rules run from Nov. 1 through April 1; staff asked residents to remove vehicles from streets after snow events to assist plowing, and noted the Algoma Police Department posts notices to its Facebook page.

The Clerk (first seen SEG 004) announced that candidate papers for the April 1, 2025 election can be circulated starting Dec. 1 and must be returned by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7; packets are available at the clerk’s office or on the city website. The clerk also described tax collection hours (Mon–Thu 07:30–16:30, Fri 07:30–12:00), the secure drop box location at City Hall’s front entrance and that payments are accepted by cash or check only (no credit/debit). If a mailed payment requires a receipt, residents must include a stamped, addressed envelope.

Chair (first seen SEG 001) also proposed starting an informal public "chat" on Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. to improve communications; the meeting would be informal and open to any attendees.
