The Parks and Recreation Board approved financial reports after hearing staff detail campground bills, hotel tax collections, utility charges and line items for pool chemicals, irrigation repairs and final payments for infield and dugout work.
Staff reported campground fees were roughly $4,000 behind last year at the same point and explained that the SilverSneakers program is no longer available through the local provider, affecting rec-center figures. The rec center was described as about 51% of budget year to date and concessions for aquatics show roughly 27% of the budget remaining.
Operational updates included a final payment to an infield contractor and an expected delivery of dugout padding next week. Staff said the outdoor pool slide's gel coat/paint is failing and recommended contacting fiberglass specialists (for example, boat shops) to assess repairs so the slide need not be uninstalled.
Board members discussed a planned independent baseball exhibition game that will be a field rental and noted the Exchange Club's concession-shade structure has been delayed by contractor and volunteer scheduling issues.
The board noted a ribbon cutting at Gaynor Park and that community members are fundraising for outdoor fitness equipment; staff stated, "City is donating $5,000 toward that cause to make that happen." Staff also reported that a small replacement restroom, including a maintenance offshoot, was estimated at about $333,000 and that an application was submitted for half-grant funding for the next year.
Members discussed relocating a playground to slightly higher ground to alleviate drainage problems and removing a fence that had been causing concrete heaving; trail maintenance was credited to volunteer group Palace City Peddlers, who the board encouraged for additional volunteer recruitment.
The board set its next meeting for Aug. 13 at 6:00 p.m.
