The Lynnfield Historical Commission voted unanimously April 20 to approve a demolition permit for the garage at 829 Salem Street, saying the structure's roof was sagging and the building was likely to collapse if not removed. The meeting was held via Zoom and convened at 8:30 a.m.
Chair Kirk Mansfield said residents of 829 Salem Street submitted the permit to tear down the garage to the left of the property in order to construct an ADU. Mansfield said the roof was sagging and the structure was likely to fail if not demolished, prompting the commissioners to consider the safety and condition of the building.
Vice Chair Steve Todisco moved to approve the demolition; Commissioner Abigall Kilgore seconded the motion. The commission recorded a unanimous vote in favor: Kirk Mansfield, Steve Todisco, Abigall Kilgore and David Palumbo all voted yes. The commission said a letter would be sent to the building inspector and to the homeowners to notify them of the approval and next steps.
The commission concluded routine business and adjourned at 8:55 a.m. No public commenters or outside attendees were recorded in the minutes.
