Lynnfield Select Board appoints assistant town accountant, approves permits and schedules traffic forum; defers Rivian test-drive plans

The Lynnfield Select Board on May 20 unanimously appointed Christine Raposo as Assistant Town Accountant effective June 1, 2026, approved several event permits and one-day liquor licenses, and scheduled a public forum to discuss the Traffic Safety Advisory Committee report and town meeting warrant articles. The board also voted to consider Rivians proposed test-drive route at its June 8 meeting and moved into executive session to discuss collective bargaining and pending litigation.
Director of Finance and Town Accountant David Castellarin told the Board the Assistant Town Accountant position had been created in anticipation of longtime Assistant Town Accountant Janice Coburns retirement on June 30; Vice Chair Richard Dalton moved the appointment and Member Joe Gallagher seconded it. The motion passed unanimously. The appointment was recorded as effective June 1, 2026.
The Board granted one-day liquor licenses for Market Street events on June 10 and June 17, 2026, and for an event on October 14, 2026, after Charlotte Woods described the events. The Board also approved multiple facilities permit requestsincluding a Lynnfield Library Foundation banner, a Pride celebration at Lynnfield Commons hosted by AHL & LHS GSA students, a Glen Meadow birthday party, a Nottingham Road block party, and a Pillings Pond Race bannersubject to conditions from the Public Works Director. All motions recorded in the transcript were approved unanimously.
Chair Alexis Leahy read the towns Juneteenth proclamation and the Board voted to adopt it. The Board also noted a vacancy on the Library Board of Trustees resulting from Joe Gallaghers resignation and scheduled a joint meeting with the trustees on June 8 to interview and appoint a replacement; applicants were directed to send letters and resumes to Mary Cova at mcova@lynnfieldma.gov. Town Moderator Steve Walsh is seeking applicants for a vacant Finance Committee seat.
Before adjourning the Select Board voted to enter two executive sessions under M.G.L. Chapter 30A: one to discuss strategy related to collective bargaining for the fire union contract and another to discuss litigation regarding the trash and recycling collection contract. The Chair announced the board would not return to public session following executive session.
