Delanco Township’s committee adopted Ordinance 2026-10 on second reading on July 13, 2026, amending the township code to designate data centers as a nonpermitted use in all zones, the committee announced at its municipal building meeting.
The ordinance had been referred to the joint land use board for master-plan consistency review; the board and the township planner recommended removing the phrase "large-scale" from the preamble (section 11). The township solicitor confirmed that change was non-substantive and that the committee could proceed with second reading and adoption that night with the amendment in place.
During the roll-call vote, one committee member voted no. "I am gonna vote no, not because I don't believe that it's important to regulate this, but ... there’s a lot of changes that could have been made to this ordinance that the township committee chose not to make," the member said, adding the ordinance "could have unintended consequences." Other members voted to adopt the ordinance with the joint land-use board’s suggested wording change.
The ordinance will be codified according to municipal procedure. Committee members did not specify an effective date during the meeting. The solicitor indicated the committee could amend the ordinance later if substantive changes are needed.
The public offered no comments during the data-center public hearing portion of the meeting.
