City staff told the Board of Alderman that seven valid proposals were opened for the Jolene Hip Park playground replacement project and two other proposals arrived after the 10 a.m. deadline and were not considered.
"I believe we had 7 valid proposals come in before the 10AM mark," Steven said, summarizing the bid opening. Staff said the proposals include both base bids and alternates (for items such as a zip line and adjacent sensory area). Because the project is tied to a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant, staff said they must complete a formal bid tabulation, consult the grant coordinator and confirm procedures before determining the lowest, responsive bidder.
Steven said staff expects to present a recommended selection and analysis at a future meeting and proposed a work session to review proposals. He said the administration hopes to have an approval by the end of the year so work could begin in the first quarter of 2026 when weather is suitable.
The board did not take a final vote on the playground contract at this meeting. Staff asked for direction to prepare the tabulation and bring back details on base bids and alternates for board review.
