Mexico City Council voted to authorize replacement of a sanitary sewer segment near the Fairgrounds and upstream end of Lakeview Lake, city staff said.
Staff told council the existing line is an older 8-inch clay pipe that would not withstand excavation for installation of a new box culvert; to protect flow and permit construction, staff recommended installing roughly 40 feet of ductile iron pipe. Staff presented an estimate showing labor at $10,582 and materials at $2,521.90, totaling approximately $13,103.99. “We recommend authorizing the replacement of the sanitary sewer by Plan B Development, at an estimate of $13,103.99,” a staff member said.
Staff said the city has a capital improvements line for wastewater with $120,000 available and that using the wastewater fund avoids exceeding grant maximums tied to other project funding.
Council moved and voted to authorize the replacement work with Plan B Development for a total of $13,103.90; roll-call votes recorded recorded approvals from all members present.
Staff said the contractor will plug the manhole and minimize downtime while the pipe is cut and replaced; exact downtime was uncertain but estimated to be a few days.
