At the meeting, Hammonton School District administrators highlighted student achievements, grant awards and staffing announcements.
A presenter reviewed athletic and academic honors, including a senior wrestler’s record and a Poetry Out Loud competitor who advanced to a state competition. The presenter introduced Senator Tigard from the 8th Legislative District, who commended the honorees and presented special recognitions.
Administrators announced Education Foundation grants that will fund supports such as ESL programming, a vision screener for the nurse's office and a Gaga pit for physical education; the foundation’s support was described as enhancing school programs. The district reported successful completion of NJSLA assessments for grades 3 and 5 and thanked teachers and staff for test administration.
Two veteran staff members were recognized for retirement: Vicky Brockenberry, a long‑time 6th‑grade social studies teacher, and Sue Perna, who taught a variety of subjects in the district for 27 years; administrators thanked them for their service. An early childhood principal, Dr. Darla Salai, was also publicly recognized for years of leadership.
Administrators noted a first‑year fundraiser that raised $6,841 and said planning was underway to expand the event. The meeting included announcements about upcoming 8th‑grade activities, field days and graduation on June 11 at Capella Field.
