Clifton council approves event permits, banners and up to $17,000 in advance funding for Haunted Trail

At its Sept. 6 meeting the Clifton Town Council approved a series of community event requests and advanced funding for a local fundraiser.
The council approved a request from the Clifton Betterment Association to use town property for Clifton Day on Oct. 9 and to place a banner over Main Street from Sept. 24 through one week after the event; the motion passed 6‑0. The council also authorized placement of a banner for the Clifton Haunted Trail on Oct. 29 (to be installed after Clifton Day) and approved up to $17,000 in advance funding for the Haunted Trail; the funding motion passed on a roll‑call vote with all members voting aye.
A banner request for the Clifton Lions Club/DEA Drug Take Back Day (Oct. 29) was withdrawn after council noted the town’s banner hardware can accommodate only one banner at a time; the town clerk was directed to publicize the Drug Take Back Day via community email and to ask the Clifton Betterment Association to help spread the word.
The council approved a Holiday Arts & Crafts Festival, co‑hosted by the town and the Art Guild, for Dec. 3 and amended the motion to invite local businesses to participate; that motion passed 6‑0. Councilmember Poe agreed to explore contracts for the Holiday Tree Lighting event, and Councilmember Screen said the Holiday Homes Tour has one committed home and needs four more.
Next steps: the clerk will publish event notices and the town will coordinate banner scheduling so events do not conflict.
