Clifton council approves Eagle Scout plan to repair Harris Park playground

On Dec. 6, 2022 the Clifton Town Council approved an Eagle Scout candidate’s proposal to repair and refresh playground equipment at Harris Park, agreeing the Town will provide materials if the Clifton Business Association does not. The motion passed by roll-call, 6-0.
Evan Lawrence, an Eagle Scout candidate with Troop 1104, presented a proposal to repair and improve the children’s playground at Harris Park, including replacing warped perimeter boards, cleaning ride-on spring horses, repainting worn areas on the train play equipment and refreshing mulch.
Donna Netschert, chair of the Town Parks Committee, said the sponsor could be the CBA and offered to allow use of water from her residence; she also requested the project use perimeter boards less prone to warping. Vice Mayor Regan McDonald asked that a permanent signpost hole be installed in the park area across from the Bittner residence to reduce recurring maintenance.
Following discussion about materials and sponsorship, Mayor Bill Hollaway moved to approve the revised project proposal with materials to be funded by the Town if not provided by the Clifton Business Association; Councilmember Darrell Poe seconded. The motion was approved by roll-call vote: Hollaway: Aye; McDonald: Aye; Effros: Aye; Pline: Aye; Poe: Aye; Screen: Aye.
The Council stipulated that warped or broken perimeter boards should be replaced on an individual basis and that existing mulch could be raked and fluffed prior to adding new mulch. The council did not set a funding amount at the meeting; staff and the Parks Committee will finalize logistics and timing and report back to the Council.
