Clifton council approves Plan of Development revisions for riding ring and OKs conditional-use permit for farmers market

The Clifton Town Council on Feb. 7 accepted Planning Commission recommendations to approve revisions to the Plan of Development for an equestrian ring at 12800 Chapel Street and to grant a conditional-use permit for a farmers market at 12644 Chapel Road.
Mayor Bill Hollaway moved to accept the Planning Commission’s recommendation to approve the Plan of Development with the specific Fairfax County-required revisions for the equestrian ring; the motion passed by poll, 6-0. The Planning Commission’s report noted that Fairfax County had made changes to the approved plan during its review and that the modifications were itemized by the town engineer.
The council also approved a conditional-use permit for a farmers market organized by Robin Moser of Virginia Mercantile to operate Sundays (except for Clifton Day) from April through November, 7 a.m.–2 p.m., limited to a maximum of seven vendors in the courtyard at 12644 Chapel Road; restrictions in the permit include no music or other amplified sound and a requirement to minimize noise. Councilmember Poe moved to accept the recommendation; Councilmember Effros seconded and the motion passed 6-0.
Planning Commission documents attached to the meeting record say the permit for 2023 is conditioned on a review if the market seeks to continue in 2024.
