The Williamson County Budget Committee on July 6 approved a design allocation intended to fund planning for a future fire station in Triune but members were clear that construction depends on sewer availability and future appropriations.
An agency official said the committee intentionally made the language flexible and that the $500,000 in the resolution is to fund design work only. "That is to do the design for the future station," the official said, noting construction funding would be requested later if planning and approvals proceed. The official added the county had received verbal assurances from a sewer provider that the planned station could be accommodated in the sewer plan, but "they're not doing written letters at this point" and the company still must work through state steps to issue formal commitments.
Committee members stressed the importance of coordinating the station design with planned public-space work near the Triune Riding Club and ensuring the sewer capacity accounted for the combined property. One committee member said the combined property area for the station and a planned pocket park is "close to about 12 acres," and asked that county staff confirm the sewer capacity includes properties to be developed simultaneously.
County staff said in the worst-case scenario an existing three-bedroom septic system could be used temporarily on site and that the design request does not commit the county to construction; it was described as a preliminary, multi-year process that could take several years to deliver a ladder truck depending on construction and procurement schedules.
What happens next Staff will continue coordination with the sewer provider and return to the committee when written sewer commitments and specific construction funding requests are available. The design-only allocation is intended to produce plans that would be presented to the committee before any construction appropriation.
