Clifton Council approves treasurer’s report, notes overdue audit and schedules budget work sessions

The Clifton Town Council approved the town Treasurer’s February 2023 report and discussed financial-administration matters, including an overdue audit and upcoming budget work sessions.
Mayor Bill Hollaway reported that the most recent fiscal year audit is three years overdue and said the auditor had not provided a plan to finish the catch-up audit. The Council directed the auditor to propose a plan for completing past-year audits and for conducting audits going forward.
The Council approved the Treasurer’s February 2023 report (motion by Mayor Hollaway, seconded by Councilmember Darrell Poe, approved by poll, 6-0). Members also discussed United Bank investment options and were informed funds are being moved into certificates of deposit at roughly 4% and that the super money market account rate would increase to about 3.5% per the bank manager.
Finally, the Council set FY-2024 budget work sessions for Monday, April 10 and Monday, April 17 at 7 PM, with a third session on Thursday, April 20 if needed; sessions will be held electronically via Zoom.
