Select Board approves AARP age-friendly designation letter and a slate of committee appointments

The Hull Select Board unanimously approved a request to sign a letter of commitment enabling the town to apply for an AARP Age-Friendly Community designation and approved a series of committee appointments.
AARP/COA representatives said the designation carries no application fee and can help secure grants and structure an action plan around age-inclusive planning. "The designation allows the town to determine its own priorities and makes some AARP grants available to the town," the presenter said. Board members noted the town already has programs and studies that align with the designation and supported sending the letter.
The board also interviewed and appointed multiple residents to advisory boards and commissions. Highlights included the appointment of Maria Ritzel and Jason McCann to the 100% Clean Energy Climate Action Committee (one-year term), Hillary Taverna to the Beautification Committee, Liz Kaye to the permanent Sewer Commission, and Kevin Beck to the War Memorial Commission. The board approved several uncontested reappointments in a single omnibus vote.
Board members reminded appointees to complete conflict-of-interest requirements and to coordinate with staff on onboarding and schedules. Several members encouraged applicants to engage in subcommittees and noted staggered terms across commissions.
Next steps: Staff will reach out to appointees about conflict-of-interest forms, swearing-in dates and committee orientation; the AARP designation application process will proceed with the Council on Aging (COA) as project lead.
