Sexton reports 10 burials this year; committee details lots sold, exhumation and donated maintenance work

Sexton Leah O'Barski told the Towns of Doty, Mountain and Riverview Cemetery Committee on Oct. 1 that the cemeteries had handled 10 burials so far in 2025, including two traditional burials and eight cremation interments. She said six lots were sold this year, four lots were returned to the towns, and two lots were refunded after being double-sold.
O'Barski said one exhumation was completed to move a burial space at the family's request, and a misplaced headstone was located and moved to the correct lot. Assistant Sexton Wayne O'Barski joined the report and noted crews removed a tree and stump and cleaned a berm; the work was covered by a donation of $575. The sexton team also reported a donation of lilac plants valued at $325 placed near the flagpole.
Clerk/Treasurer Lynn Kauzlaric and committee members discussed seasonal cleanup plans: decorations will be removed by Oct. 15 and may be returned to lots after Nov. 10. The committee also noted pavement on a new road at the cemetery is breaking at the edges and agreed to consult Brandon, the Oconto County Highway Commissioner, about the completed project and any remedies.
The sextons highlighted equipment and storage constraints discussed elsewhere on the agenda, and committee members asked that the sextons forward any follow-up cost estimates to trustees when available. The committee scheduled its next meeting for April 26, 2026.
