MAS Commission flags roughly 11% healthcare rise, budgets for ambulance maintenance and facility planning

MAS Commission members were told Aug. 28 that the preliminary 2026 budget will likely include an approximately 11% increase in healthcare costs, a development officials said will require towns to begin adjusting their upcoming budgets. Chris Schultz, MAS Commissioner, made the report and cited healthcare as the largest preliminary increase in next year’s budget.
Schultz also reported a 2022 ambulance will need new tires at an estimated cost of about $3,500. "The 2022 ambulance is in need of tires, which will be about $3,500," he said. Commissioners discussed whether any remodeling or additions to the MAS building are necessary and agreed to examine options soon so each town can plan in future budgets.
The commission did not take any vote on budget items at the meeting; members asked staff to compile cost estimates and present them at a future meeting. The next MAS Commission meeting is scheduled for Sept. 18, 2025, where detailed budget figures — including finalized healthcare cost numbers and a proposed spending plan for vehicle maintenance and facilities — are expected to be discussed.
