The Upson County Planning Commission recommended that county commissioners rezone a 1.98‑acre parcel at 2474 Highway 19 North from C‑2 to R‑2 (REZ202607) so the existing house on the property can be sold and used as a residence.
Applicant Nathan Hunter, who gave his address as 1853 McCard Lake Road, Meansville, told the commission he purchased the house and found the parcel had reverted to commercial zoning in 2008 even though it has never been used for business. "When I made the purchase, it reverted purely to C‑2," Hunter said. "There's still a house on it. I purchased the house... I was attempting to sell the property, and I've had a lot more interest from a residential perspective."
Staff (speaker 5) reviewed the parcel and the future development map and recommended approval, saying the property's residential character and surrounding R‑2 zoning supported the request. The public hearing drew no opposition; a board member moved to approve the rezoning and the motion was seconded. The planning commission forwarded its recommendation to the county commissioners for final action.
The county commissioners will consider the planning commission's recommendation at their next available meeting.
