The Upson County Planning Commission on Tuesday voted to recommend that commissioners rezone a two‑acre parcel on the west side of Harvey Street from C‑2 (commercial) to R‑2 (single‑family residential). Chair (speaker 1) opened the public hearing on REZ202606 and said the parcel is identified as tax parcel 23 C O 87 in Land Lot 9715.
Richard, who identified his address as 605 Nelson Drive, said the lot is under contract to be sold to a neighboring resident, "it's adjacent to his current residence," and that he has not heard opposition from neighbors. "It's a two‑way contract," Richard said, describing the planned sale and noting the parcel would become part of the buyer's property.
Staff and several board members said the request is consistent with surrounding residential zoning and moved to recommend approval. A board member moved to open and then close the public hearing; there were no public objections recorded. A motion recommending approval was seconded and advanced to the board of commissioners for final action.
The recommendation will be forwarded to the county commissioners for their consideration. The planning commission made only a recommendation; the commissioners retain final authority on zoning changes.
