Black Hawk County supervisors approve $1.86 million in claims, extend state cybersecurity support and accept Pinecrest renovation closeout

The Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors approved a slate of routine financial and project actions during its July 14 meeting, including authorizing $1,857,654.58 in claims and accepting the closeout of a major building renovation.
“The total claims amount is $1,857,654.58,” the clerk reported as the board considered a resolution to authorize county expenditures and direct the county auditor to issue payments. The payroll listing presented with the claims totaled $1,217,041.54. The resolution was approved by voice and roll call.
The board also approved a one-year extension of a memorandum of understanding with the Iowa Department of Management to continue providing CrowdStrike endpoint-detection-and-response services and security-operations monitoring at no cost. The county IT representative described the extension as another year of free service: “Just 1 more year of of free service,” the LU IT director said; supervisors approved the extension unanimously.
Supervisors accepted the certificate of substantial completion and project closeout documents for Phase A of the Pinecrest Building renovation, which serves Public Health and Veterans Affairs. The chair said the project was completed by Peters Construction Corporation of Waterloo with a final contract amount of $2,337,222.87; the board authorized release of final retainage totaling $116,861.11.
The board also approved a motion allowing the Black Hawk County Mobile Clinic to use county grounds on three dates this summer and early fall. An online representative said insurance requirements have delayed sites elsewhere, and the county-run effort intends to begin with one event per month and expand if the scheduling and coverage issues are resolved.
A travel request to send Supervisor Rich Kurtenbach to the Iowa State Association of Counties (ISAC) annual conference in Des Moines Aug. 19–21 was approved. The travel-form entry listed an estimated cost of $11.95 in the packet; supervisors discussed that the figure is an estimate submitted with the request.
Other routine business during the meeting included approval of minutes from July 7, adoption of the consent agenda and the usual department reports. All votes on the noted resolutions were carried as presented.
What’s next: Staff will complete administrative closeout paperwork for the Pinecrest project and follow up on mobile-clinic insurance and scheduling; the LU IT director will continue coordination with the state on the CrowdStrike services.
