Mahwah Day planning and preservation award nomination discussed by Historic Preservation Commission

At its May 21 meeting, the Mahwah Historic Preservation Commission discussed plans for Mahwah Day 2026 and the Commission's annual preservation award.
Martha Steinbach reported on Mahwah Day preparations and said she and Chair Regina Toomey Bueno will be unavailable on the event day; the Commission will assign coverage at a later meeting. Community member Roy Grundmann volunteered to help with Mahwah Day and has been connected with Steinbach.
Separately, commissioners agreed to honor Vinny LaBarbiera with a historic preservation award; Chair Bueno will meet with LaBarbiera in June to interview him about his work preserving historic properties in town.
No formal votes were taken on the award or event staffing at the meeting; assignments and final plans will be confirmed at a future meeting.
