Mahwah Historic Preservation Commission approves minutes, outlines outreach and event plans

The Mahwah Historic Preservation Commission on April 16 approved the minutes of its Dec. 18, 2025 and Feb. 19, 2026 meetings and discussed several administrative and outreach items including social media assignments, Mahwah Day planning, nomination of a preservation award recipient, member ID cards and reassigning ordinance properties for workload balance.
The committee discussed a plan to assign each commissioner four ordinance properties so that each member would have a monthly schedule to post photos of their assigned properties on the commission Facebook page. Chair Regina Toomey Bueno said she will email members after the meeting to collect preferences and finalize reassignments at the next meeting.
The commission agreed to honor Vinny LaBarbiera with a historic preservation award; Chair Bueno will reach out to arrange an interview. Secretary Jennifer Storms will follow up with Administration on the status of member ID cards. Commissioners also discussed a suggestion box idea for the Mahwah Day time capsule and the goal of identifying businesses or people to honor who supported the commission.
Formal actions recorded in the minutes included two approvals of prior meeting minutes and the motion to adjourn. The Dec. 18 minutes were approved on a motion by Commissioner Richard Michalson, seconded by Martha Steinbach, with a roll call of four aye votes (Dator, Michalson, Steinbach and Warshaw). The Feb. 19 minutes were approved on a motion by Chair Regina Toomey Bueno, seconded by Richard Michalson; the minutes text records "five aye votes" but then lists seven members by name, a discrepancy noted in the minutes.
