Maryland courts preview MDEC upgrade, redesigned data dashboard and pilot AI evidence clinic

Judy Rupp, State Court Administrator, told the Maryland Judicial Council on May 28 that the Administrative Office of the Courts has launched a redesigned Data Dashboard on the Maryland Courts website, offering enhanced drill-down capabilities, improved District Court case-type categorization and downloadable data files intended to make caseload and performance metrics more accessible.
Rupp described a parallel upgrade of the Maryland Electronic Courts (MDEC) system to Enterprise Justice 2024. She listed new features planned for the upgrade — pinned task queues, task-assignment favorites, shortcut icons, batch rescheduling of hearings, form merge improvements, Odyssey-based e-service, shielding of individual charges, attorney conflict checks, and remote hearing attendance notes — and said round 1 testing with Judicial Information Systems and selected court users is scheduled to finish in early July, with full testing by the end of July, after which the Judiciary will finalize implementation timelines with vendor Tyler Technologies.
Rupp also previewed an artificial intelligence evidence clinic pilot intended to provide expert analysis regarding the authenticity of electronic evidence that may have been altered with AI. She said the pilot will prioritize civil cases involving unrepresented litigants or those without access to expert support so judges have an available resource when questions about AI-generated or manipulated evidence arise.
Council members asked clarifying questions about testing timelines and the scope of the pilot; the Administrative Office will continue planning and report back with implementation details.
