Zeeland Elections Commission approves May 5 poll workers, consolidates precinct at Howard Miller Library

The Zeeland Elections Commission on April 6 approved a roster of election workers for the May 5 local election and voted to combine the city’s two precincts into a single polling location at the Howard Miller Library/Community Center.
City Clerk Kristi DeVerney called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. and presented the list of workers to the commission. Mayor Rick VanDorp moved to approve the February 16, 2026 minutes and the motion carried with all three commissioners identified as voting aye: VanDorp, Donkersloot and DeVerney. VanDorp then moved (supported by City Attorney Jim Donkersloot) to approve the election workers for May 5; the motion carried.
Approved precinct workers named in the commission’s roster were Judy vonDobschutz, Diane Klunder, Nancy Oskam, Nancy Boersen, Sara Donkerslot and Pam VanDorp. The Absent Voter Counting Board (AVCB) was listed as Karen Jipping, Kim Zuverink, Lindell Herrick and Chris Urbaniak. Receiving Board members were listed as Renee MacLaren, Kathie Kolean and Ben Kiewiet.
Clerk DeVerney reported that Zeeland’s two precincts will be combined into one precinct located in the Lester Hoogland Banquet Room at the Howard Miller Library/Community Center. She also said absentee ballots will be counted by the Absent Voter Counting Board in the library’s North Activity Room. (The transcript contained a typographical error "North Activity Rom," which is corrected here to "North Activity Room" to reflect the facility name.)
The commission took no other business and adjourned at 7:41 p.m. The actions taken formally establish staff and locations for election day operations on May 5.
