Council member Dennis Schrimpf moved the approval, and his brother, Council member Brian Schrimpf, seconded the motion; the motion carried unanimously following the council’s return to open session. The council had met in closed session under Wis. Stat. § 19.85(1)(e) for deliberations and negotiations related to the purchase, with the meeting entering closed session at 7:12 p.m. and returning to open session at 7:17 p.m.
Mayor Jim Houdek said more information about the financing will be provided once the City Attorney prepares the purchase agreement. According to the minutes, Houdek told the meeting that the names of the donors who provided the funds will be given once the city receives the formal agreement from the City Attorney.
The approval directs the city to proceed with acquiring the two properties using the donated funds; the minutes do not specify purchase price, closing date, any conditions attached to the donation, or the donors’ identities. The motion recorded in the minutes reads: “Motion by D. Schrimpf/B. Schrimpf to approve the purchase of 13 and 15 W. Montello St. using donated funds. Motion carried unanimously.”
The council handled several routine items earlier in the meeting, including approval of the agenda and multiple sets of committee minutes. During the Park minutes discussion, Council member Ron Knutson asked whether the school could repair picnic tables as it has previously; Venise Mugler said she would ask Mike Kohnke to follow up and Lucas Stelter noted the school had resumed woodworking projects.
Matt Faltz, listed among others present, asked the council for details about the donated funds; Houdek reiterated that donor names will be disclosed after the City Attorney finalizes the agreement. The meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m. Minutes were recorded by Dawn Calnin.
