The Tonopah Town Board unanimously approved several administrative and routine items on Jan. 14, including a new Transient Lodging Business License application effective Jan. 1, 2026; an Informed Consent Directive–Refusal of Care Transport form for the Tonopah Volunteer Fire Department; and two Room Tax grant awards for local events.
Under the consent agenda the board approved a $2,983.34 Room Tax grant to advertise the 2026 Tonopah Middle School Booster Club Basketball Tournament and a $669 grant to advertise the 2026 Tonopah Rodeo Club Coyote Calling Contest. The consent agenda also included a Shaw Engineering proposal to update the operation and maintenance manual for the Wastewater Treatment Plant and Reuse System (permit NS0000026) for up to $7,500. Vice Chair Joni Eastley moved to approve the consent agenda and Member Steven Stringer seconded; the board carried the motion 5-0.
The board also approved using a new Tonopah Transient Lodging Business License application, which requires a posted license and provides the town with required operator information; Vice Chair Eastley moved approval and Member Stringer seconded, and the motion carried 5-0.
The fire-department form was approved after POOL/PACT review. The item was reopened for clarification on file storage and retention; Fire Chief Yeager said the forms are stored digitally in a locked file and are typically retained for seven years. Clerk Marc Grigory moved to approve use of the form and Member Douglas Baker seconded; the vote was 5-0.
The board set two budget-workshop dates — Feb. 20 and April 3, both at 10:00 a.m. at the Tonopah Convention Center — as recommended by staff (Becky Braska). The board’s administrative actions were routine and passed unanimously.
In the Library District meeting that followed, trustees approved the Library District consent agenda and set the same budget workshop dates; Mr. Westerlund noted he will be on vacation next week. Public comment at the Library District meeting included a note that the VFW winter convention is happening this week. Both the Town Board and Library District adjourned in the evening.
