The Town of Walton board on June 8 approved a set of personnel, insurance and purchase actions after brief reports from town staff.
Supervisor Joseph Cetta announced Code Enforcement Officer Garrett Newbauer had submitted a 60‑day resignation notice with a last day of July 18, 2026, and the board then moved through several routine and personnel items. The board appointed Kevin Reis‑Nascimento as a Motor Equipment Operator in the highway department at the 2026 budgeted rate of $26.19 per hour, effective July 29, 2026; the board also voted to waive a probationary wage reduction so Reis‑Nascimento would start at the full budgeted rate. Councilman Kevin Armstrong commended the highway crew for posting signs for the ATV club.
On insurance, the board voted to remove wording in the town's New York State Insurance Fund (NYSIF) policy endorsement that read “Existing Covers Only Town Highway Workers,” directing that the policy instead reflect coverage for all eligible employees. Supervisor Cetta said the change was necessary because payroll reporting since Paid Family Leave began in 2018 has included all eligible employees' premiums and the town intended the NYSIF policy to match that practice.
The board also handled financial housekeeping. Members initially approved vouchers across funds and then entered executive session for negotiations; after the session the board rescinded the prior approval to remove an ISD voucher, approved an amended General Fund A abstract of $61,212.18, and authorized the purchase of three desktop computers at up to $1,000 apiece. All motions reported in the minutes passed with the notation “all in favor.”
The meeting record shows these votes and motions were routine approvals rather than contested actions. The board approved the personnel appointment, the NYSIF policy endorsement change, the amended abstract and the computer purchases; the meeting adjourned after the actions.
