Recreation staff previewed Old Home Day plans and gave an update on summer programming at the commission meeting. "The color run... that'll be on Thursday, the 13th this year... Thursday the 13th, from 05:30 to 06:30 at the Town Common," the staff member said, adding that people would arrive at 5:00 p.m. and there would be other kid‑friendly activities, a touch truck and a movie night organized by the police association.
Staff also said the department plans a police-vs-fire softball game and a home run derby as part of the Old Home Day festivities. "That'll just be 1 game... they are planning to do a home run derby and kind of kids games... prior to fireworks and the food trucks as well," the staff member said.
On summer programming, staff told the commission the summer playground program has about 350 children enrolled and roughly 20 staff members, with multiple trips and special events scheduled. "We are about halfway into all of our summer camps right now," the staff member said, noting field day, trips to Mount Major and Wears Beach, and popular activities such as outdoor laser tag.
Staff also reported smaller program details: tennis lessons began for grades 3–12 with 20 participants, an adult lesson program has eight participants and a five‑week flag football clinic is full with 30 participants. The commission and staff discussed volunteer needs for Old Home Day and whether the commission should have a table at the event.
Staff said more Old Home Day details will be shared as the event committee finalizes plans and that they will solicit volunteers before the next meeting.
