A resident asked for an update on taxing and assessment at Jolly Roger Village, citing waterfront property and multiple structures. "Can you give us an update, please, on the Jolly Roger Village and what's going on with taxing?" the resident (S5) asked.
Chris (S3) replied that the property comprises about 55 structures on roughly 40 acres and that the campground-style sites have a single septic system and a mix of occupied and unoccupied structures. He explained that years of tax delinquencies and subsequent auction purchases led to an involuntary merger of lots into a single parcel, which complicates individual billing. "In my opinion, it's not assessed appropriately, but that's not necessarily his fault," Chris said, and the office said it is working on ways to rectify the assessment methodology and will bring follow-up information to the board.
Board members asked about septic inspection frequency (the office said dump-station inspections are typically annual) and about whether separate systems or permits were needed; staff noted state rules and that the current setup is the result of historic practice. The board agreed the matter is on their radar and asked staff to set up a meeting with the assessor, IT and any other relevant parties to review assessments and permitting details.
No formal vote was taken; staff committed to return with additional information at a future meeting.
