Board approves $8.49 million in manifests, hears budget update and policy first reads

The Governor Wentworth Regional School Board on Feb. 2 approved manifests totaling $8,485,356.02 and received an update from Superintendent Caroline Arakelian on the district budget process and the recent Deliberative Session. The superintendent emphasized the district’s stance on student safety and immigration enforcement and noted budget materials are posted on the district website and available via WCTV podcasts.
The board approved three sets of minutes and the manifest motion, which the minutes show were signed by multiple members prior to the vote. The superintendent said all warrant articles received unanimous board support at the Deliberative Session and that one petition warrant article was submitted seeking funds for a playground.
Dr. Elizabeth Sheckler presented multiple policies for 1st Read (reaffirmation and revision) and sought suggested edits. Discussion included requests for historical information on the Wood Estate Trust Fund, whether KRHS scholarships are guaranteed, the definition of extra/co-curricular activities and the dollar limit for transfers of appropriations. Dr. Sheckler also reported that new Level 2 Robotics, AP Business with Personal Finance, and Game Design courses have been added to the Kingswood Regional High School curriculum.
Committee reports noted upcoming meetings and work: Community Relations will schedule a meeting, Finance encouraged public review of the Deliberative Session, and a Human Resources working committee will explore healthcare options at a Feb. 9 work session. The meeting closed after a public comment requesting lapel microphones for better audience audio and a unanimous adjournment at 8:31 p.m.
