Owensville aldermen approved a key equipment purchase for street maintenance and authorized immediate upgrades to police communications and vehicle equipment at their March 3 meeting.
The council voted to approve the Public Works Director’s recommendation to purchase a 24‑inch milling attachment and wiring harness from Bobcat of Rolla for $23,500. Alderman Lahmeyer made the motion, Alderman Kramme seconded, and the motion carried without dissent. City staff described the attachment as intended to reduce ongoing street repair and patching costs.
City staff also reported an urgent need to obtain a new radio license after a double frequency conflict with Hermann. Bids from A&W Communications were discussed for portable and vehicle radios; the board gave consensus for the City Administrator to approve the radio purchases for officer safety. Council members also authorized A&W Communications to install a correct light bar, siren box and console on the Tahoe, with staff estimating the Tahoe equipment cost at roughly $6,000–$8,000.
Separately, the City Marshal reported that Tasers and body cameras are expected to be in service next week pending computer updates and that staff is preparing a policy for their use.
The approvals position the city to put the milling attachment into service and to move forward on police communications and vehicle equipment upgrades; formal purchase orders and administrative approvals will be completed by staff.
