Nelson Select Board approves purchase of used radar for police; cruiser recall noted

The Nelson Select Board on June 25 authorized the purchase of a used radar unit for the police department for $500 plus the cost of new cables after Police Department representative J. Filipi reported the department’s older radar unit is not working and may require parts that are no longer available.
The motion to purchase the used unit offered by the Marlborough Police Department was made by Chair Brenna Kucinski and seconded by Selectman Michael Blaudschun; the motion carried 3-0. The meeting record states the newer radar is now functioning but the older unit is inoperable without repair parts.
Filipi also reported that the department’s 2014 cruiser remains operational though staff found metal filings in a fluid and are watching the vehicle while some Ford recall parts remain pending. He said there have been approximately 205 calls to date this year, a level similar to 2024, and that he plans to work daytime shifts on Friday and Saturday, July 3 and 4.
Filipi noted an engine recall affecting the newer cruiser is pending affirmative action by Ford Motor. With no further business the board adjourned at 4:15 PM.
