The Gilmanton Board of Selectmen on May 4 reviewed a request from the Shell Camp Lake Conservation Association for $19,000 from the town’s Milfoil Treatment Fund to cover half the cost of a Solitude Lake Management milfoil treatment contract.
Town Administrator Heather Carpenter said the Milfoil Treatment Fund currently holds approximately $17,000 and is intended to support multiple water bodies, including a previous allocation of $1,000 for Rocky Pond. The association had not submitted the expected management plan during the budget cycle; the plan is intended to be presented to voters so annual treatment costs can be budgeted.
Board members questioned how the association would cover the remaining 50% of the treatment cost and whether other lakes might seek treatment in the future. The board tabled the request and directed that the Shell Camp Lake Conservation Association be invited to the next meeting with a management plan and additional information before any funds are committed.
