At the July 13 ACP meeting commissioners voted to form a planning subcommittee charged with reviewing the Montgomery County Police Department strategic plan for the remainder of the commission’s term and to prepare a report or recommended letter as appropriate.
Chair Susan described the subcommittee's charge: read the MCPD strategic plan through 2030, analyze each point, and condense findings into a report for the commission and, if warranted, a letter to the county council or MCPD. Sherry moved to form the subcommittee; John seconded the motion and the commission carried it by voice. Members who volunteered or were named to start the group included Sherry, John, Francisco and others; Francisco agreed to help with scheduling and leadership tasks.
Separately, commissioners planned the next public forum: they agreed the commission should hold a listening session in September at the County Council Office Building, tentatively on Sept. 14 (alternate Sept. 28). The forum will center on the MCPD strategic plan while remaining open to other public input; the format will include a brief overview of the commission’s role and committee updates followed by public comment. Commissioners discussed outreach channels (County PIO distribution, MyMC Media, WTOP) and a hybrid approach of targeted content plus open listening.
The commission also agreed informally to organize a social gathering for members in late summer; Sherry offered to host in August and the commission will circulate date and food-signup polls.
Next steps: Francisco will draft an updated slideshow outlining committees and upcoming agenda items; Susan will check Council staff availability for the forum date; Sherry will propose dates for the social gathering and Francisco will help with scheduling.
