Emery County Commission ratifies contracts, plans and small grant requests

Commissioners voted to ratify an amended memorandum of understanding with the Emery County Business Chamber for the 2026 county fair that adjusts line items and sets the contract total at $52,343. They also ratified an amendment to contract 261454 to accept a $2,000 reimbursement for an Iron Branch Library children- and teen-book enhancement grant, and they approved a collaborative agreement with the American Heart Association under the Libraries of Heart program to continue blood-pressure monitoring services at branch libraries.
The board ratified the 2027 substance-abuse disorder and mental-health area plan submitted by 4 Corners Community Behavioral Health; Melissa Huntington, executive director, said the document begins a new three-year cycle of services the organization will provide in the region. Commissioners also exercised option year 1 of the Bureau of Land Management law-enforcement contract to continue patrol funding on BLM lands, and they adopted the Emery County pre-disaster mitigation plan to formalize previously approved mitigation work.
In votes recorded during the meeting, motions to ratify these items were moved and seconded and carried unanimously by commissioners present.
The commission also approved a modest donation to help five Emery High School rodeo competitors attend the National High School Rodeo finals: the board approved $7.50 per competitor for five riders. Students and family members explained travel, entry and animal-care costs during the request.
Several items were administrative in nature; staff said deadlines or administrative oversights — including a missed grant portal submission and a due-diligence survey scheduling delay — prompted some of the ratifications. Commissioners said they reviewed supporting documents and confirmed procedural adherence before voting.
What’s next: staff will proceed under the signed MOUs and contracts; the commission agreed to revisit any items that need modification once additional details are available.
