Commission approves taqueria permit at 1004 Page Avenue

Bianca, who said she and her husband Alvin own La Vicinda, told the Plan and Zoning Commission the new location at 1004 Page Avenue would be primarily a carry-out taqueria intended to reduce foot-traffic pressure at their existing shop.
"We're the current owners of La Vicinda down the street," Bianca said, adding the new location would focus on food service rather than ice cream so lines at their other location would be shorter. Staff director Katie Sanders said the site previously operated as a dine-in/carry-out restaurant and that the application appears to meet zoning requirements, though the applicants requested expanded hours: 8 a.m.–11 p.m. Sunday–Thursday and 8 a.m.–midnight Friday–Saturday, which exceed the previously issued permit.
City attorney Joe Bond noted he had amended the draft to allow liquor sales only if applicants later obtain a liquor license, so the conditional-use paperwork would not block a future change requiring separate licensing. Commissioner Mark Giroux and other commissioners said they saw no neighborhood-safety or screening problems given an existing six-foot privacy fence at the rear of the property.
The commission voted to approve the conditional use permit and to approve the site plan with the stipulations as presented and discussed. The vote was recorded by voice; the motion carried.
