Assembly approves three ordinances, donates to Kotzebue Fire Department and ratifies election judges

The Northwest Arctic Borough Assembly on Sept. 24 enacted three ordinances and approved two resolutions during a regular meeting in Kotzebue.
Public Safety Director Chris Hatch summarized Ordinance 24-09, amending borough code for employee relocation expenses and recommended it "do pass." Vice President Walter Sampson moved to enact Ordinance 24-09, seconded by Member Dood Lincoln Carr; the motion passed unanimously by roll call.
Legal Attorney Matt Mead presented Ordinance 24-10, approving a memorandum of agreement with the Alaska Municipal League for grant-management services; Vice President Sampson moved enactment, seconded by Member Miles Cleveland Sr., and the assembly passed it unanimously.
Mayor Dickie Moto summarized Ordinance 24-11 to approve a copier/printing contract with Konica Minolta. Vice President Sampson moved to enact the ordinance, seconded by Member Dood Lincoln Carr; the motion passed unanimously by roll call.
The assembly also approved Resolution 24-40, an FY25 Assembly donation to the City of Kotzebue Fire Department. Mayor Dickie Moto summarized the request; Member Dood Lincoln Carr moved approval, seconded by Vice President Sampson. The resolution passed by majority with Member Haviland Lie recorded as abstaining.
The assembly ratified Resolution 24-41 appointing Election Judge Chairs for the Oct. 1 general election on a motion by Vice President Sampson, seconded by Member Delores Barr; that measure passed unanimously by roll call.
Procedural business at the start of the meeting included approval of the agenda as amended and approval of the Aug. 27 minutes; both passed on motions by Vice President Sampson with unanimous roll-call votes.
The assembly set future meeting dates: a special meeting Oct. 7, 2024, and regular meetings Oct. 28–29, 2024. The meeting adjourned at 11:38 A.M.
