East Islip Board reelects leadership and swears in trustees and student representative

The East Islip Union Free School District Board of Education completed its annual reorganization at a meeting that included officer elections, trustee oaths and the appointment of a student ex officio member for the 2026–27 school year.
Nominations opened for board president for the 2026–27 term. A motion made by Michael Dorgan and seconded by Timothy Sasson to appoint Stephen Ruhlin as board president was approved; Ruhlin then took the oath of office. The board likewise appointed Michael Dorgan as vice president after a nomination by Jessica Champy; Dorgan was sworn in.
The board administered oaths of office to trustees Jessica Champy and Christopher Zachary. The board also approved a resolution to appoint Anna Heumann as an ex officio student board member for the 2026–27 school year (term 07/01/2026–06/30/2027). The resolution specifies that the student member may attend all regular board meetings, participate in discussions and offer recommendations but will not vote or attend executive sessions; the student member will receive training on board procedures.
Board president and members reminded the public that members wishing to speak on agenda items must sign in before the meeting and that public comments are limited to three minutes.
