The East Islip Union Free School District on Monday opened the required 30‑day public review and comment period for an amended districtwide school safety plan and a limited revision to its code of conduct.
A presenter for the district summarized the proposed 2026–27 safety plan updates, citing Commissioner’s Regulation 155.17 and New York Education Law §2801. The changes would revise team and committee rosters, update emergency communication procedures, expand language about a safe hotline and visitor management, and add guidance on after‑school and extended‑day security, trauma‑informed drills, access and functional needs planning, blue strobe visual alerts, student elopement and missing‑student response, cardiac emergency response and transportation emergency planning.
The presenter said the public plan gives an overview of districtwide procedures while building‑level emergency response details remain confidential. The amended draft will be posted on the district website for a 30‑day comment period; after that review the board expects to place the plan on the August board agenda for approval.
The same presentation introduced limited revisions to the district code of conduct, chiefly clarifying expectations for automobiles, electric bicycles, scooters and similar devices on school property and at school functions. The presenter said other existing code provisions remain in place, including disciplinary procedures, searches, visitors and DASA‑related rules. The draft code of conduct was described as having been reviewed by the law firm "Ingerrand and Smith."
