The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Commission recorded several formal motions and unanimous voice votes at its July 6 meeting. Key outcomes:
CXC Outdoor Community Center sign Staff presented a proposed sign for the CXC Outdoor Community Center (which will include the Middleton Nordic Center). The commission moved and seconded a recommendation to approve the sign design as presented; the motion passed unanimously.
Middleton Urban Forestry Management Plan and inventory After consultant presentation and Q&A, the commission moved, seconded and voted to recommend that the Common Council adopt the urban forestry management plan and the updated tree inventory.
Proclamation: July as Parks and Recreation Month The commission recommended that the Common Council adopt the annual proclamation designating July as Parks and Recreation Month; a commissioner volunteered to read the proclamation at council.
Agreement with RecDesk LLC (parks management software) The commission voted to recommend a one‑year agreement with RecDesk LLC for an amount not to exceed $7,500 (subject to city attorney approval) and noted the contract includes a 3% annual cost‑of‑living increase and automatic renewal unless cancelled 30 days prior.
Grant agreement and Land Use Restriction Agreement (LURA) Staff reported the city was awarded a $200,000 grant for the Priest Park Shelter through the Wisconsin Department of Administration’s non‑state grant program. The commission recommended the grant agreement and LURA to finance and the Common Council; staff noted the city attorney asked staff to follow up on one condition in the grant documents.
Community Campus recommendation Separately, the commission voted to recommend that Common Council include recreation services in the architectural programming and space planning for the community campus project; PRFC will provide a more specific recommendation on square footage and storage at a future meeting.
Procedure and next steps: Most motions were recommendations to finance and the Common Council; final approvals for agreements and the urban forestry plan will be decided by the Common Council (and some items are subject to city attorney review).
