Planning commission pushes Master Plan; council hears proposed tree‑permit changes and resident concerns

Planning Commission member Julie Bonello told the council the Master Plan is targeted for mid‑Fall completion and thanked residents for survey responses; she said beaches and infrastructure are top priorities and announced an open workshop on July 26.
Tree committee representative Nancy Thill proposed changes to the village tree ordinance, most notably that contractors — rather than homeowners — should apply for tree permits. Thill also announced an Arbor Day celebration scheduled for July 10 at the butterfly garden and noted poison hemlock regrowth in the park; she said fencing around park trees will be replaced.
During public comment residents raised several neighborhood issues. Pam Schutt complained about marijuana use and the number of cars at a nearby rental property; council members said the Village attorney and police are looking into the matter. Mike Mayfield asked the council to support Pickleball players with a liaison, bathroom access and a review of barricade rules. Bruce Hirsch expressed concern about renters, parking and dogs off leash. Mark Zello commended Building Inspector Bill Lambert for his responsiveness.
Council did not adopt ordinance language at the meeting; the tree‑permit proposal and Master Plan schedule were presented for consideration and further development.
