The Cold Bay City Council met on Nov. 19, 2024, at the library and unanimously approved the night’s agenda, meeting minutes and the presented financial reports.
City staff member Lorie Pierce updated the council on a recently installed PFAS filtration system. Pierce said the system is installed and that initial post‑installation tests showed non‑detect results through the filtration system; the system must receive final operating approval from the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation before staff begins regular operation.
The council also received a facilities update. Pierce told council members that the Community Center needs water redirected away from the building and that exterior OSB sheeting and siding will need replacement next year; the city has asked Gould Construction for bids and paused other building work until spring. A Quonset hut is currently under construction, she added.
On personnel, Council Member Rob Walker expressed interest in serving as EMS squad leader. Council Member Charlie Summerville moved to appoint Walker to the role, and Mayor Jeff Wasley seconded the motion; the council approved the appointment unanimously.
The meeting included a short overview of previous council training materials presented by staff member Lorie Pierce. Council members offered brief comments of thanks before voting to adjourn at 8:03 PM.
Actions taken at the meeting were procedural and routine: approval of the agenda, minutes and financials; the appointment of an EMS squad leader; and formal adjournment. No public comments on agenda items were recorded.
