Dunedin proclaims July 2026 Parks and Recreation Month; commissioners praise staff

The City Commission opened its July 7, 2026 workshop by proclaiming July as Parks and Recreation Month in Dunedin. Commissioner Tom DeGard read the proclamation, which highlighted parks’ roles in promoting physical and mental health, supporting childhood development and improving local economic vitality.
Parks and recreation staff and commission members noted the diverse facilities that anchor community life — the marina, golf course, trails and parks such as Hammock Park and the Gladys Douglas Preserve — and thanked full-time, part-time and volunteer staff for day-to-day operations and programming. The commission encouraged residents to take part in parks events and programs throughout July.
During citizen input that followed, resident Thomas Devlin thanked staff for park upkeep and raised two operational requests for the Sterling Golf Range — better-quality balls and nighttime lighting (with an automated ball dispenser) — and staff agreed to investigate the requests.
