City recognizes Leadership Mission Class 42 and Mission CISD student winners for community projects

The City of Mission on June 23 recognized Leadership Mission Class 42 and Mission CISD students for community service projects.
Candace Rodriguez, historian for the Leadership Mission Board of Directors, told the council that Class 42 completed a nine‑month program with 16 graduates who contributed more than 300 volunteer hours and raised over $13,000 for the Mission Recycling Center, which she said suffered a November 2025 fire. "Class 42 has concluded an extraordinary 9 month journey," Rodriguez said, adding that the board contributed about $4,800 to local organizations.
Jose Domingo, who identified himself as the board’s sergeant at arms, reiterated pride in the class and said the cohort logged "over 200 hours" focusing work within the city. Council members and the mayor thanked the graduates and invited them forward for a photograph.
Separately, city staff invited students from Mission CISD to present projects developed for the Bright Minds Expo. Cynthia Lopez, a Mission High School social studies teacher, described the students’ canal‑cleanup project and other community efforts, saying, "Our students volunteered their time and energy to help improve the cleanliness and appearance of our community's waterways." Staff said the canal‑cleanup group won first prize in the Expo.

The council moved on after brief remarks and photos; Leadership Mission said it will recruit for Class 43 and hold board elections the following Saturday.
