"I would request a motion, to approve the purchase of the 2021 F-150 XL, 4 wheel drive truck, extended warranty, tonneau cover, not to exceed $35,000," he said.
Alderman Peterson argued against purchasing the warranty, saying the city could likely self-insure for unexpected repairs and that warranties can be expensive. "It seems to me like... that certainly our budget could accommodate repairs... it just might be throwing good money away," Peterson said. Council members split on the issue: an amendment to remove the warranty failed after a voice vote and the original motion — truck plus warranty and tonneau cover — passed.
